Best Value Holiday for all Australians
More Australian’s are choosing to holiday within Australia than ever before. The onset of online booking systems, easily accessible and comparable travel information and the advancing quality of Australian Caravan and Camping facilities saw 40.9 million visitor nights spent in caravan or camping accommodation in 2009. This is an increase of 1.3 million nights from 2008*.
President of the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturers Association of Australia (RVMAA), Richard Raven attributes this growth to Australian’s increasingly seeing more value in holidaying at home than travelling abroad.
Barry Baillie, Chief Executive Officer of the Caravan and Camping Industry Association (CCIA) supports this, stating “caravan, camping and 4WD getaways are still the best value holiday option for all Australians, offering something for every budget.”
RVMAA figures demonstrate that camper trailer and caravan manufacturing figures showed the strongest growth in the entire Australian manufacturing sector increasing by up to 28%.
Barry Baillie, believes that these statistics are also attributable to the continuous appeal of caravan and camping to all demographics, “we continue to see large increases in first time campers and families trying the outdoor experience for the first time.”
“Our industry is so strong because we have something for every taste, requirement and budget. Not to mention, those who decide to buy their own recreational vehicles can be certain that their products have amongst the best resale value in the entire tourism sector,” said Richard Raven.
Even in the wake of a global financial crisis The Caravan, Motorhome and Camping industry is the fastest growing domestic tourism sector in NSW and Australia.
