About

The commercial centre of the Illawarra and beautifully located on a fishing harbour and is recognised for its lighthouse and famous Blowhole which is a natural fault in the cliffs which explodes into a water spout when hit by a large wave - truly a natural wonder to witness, making the origins of the township's name - 'Kiaram-a', an aboriginal word meaning 'where the sea makes noise' - quite apt. The The town is steeped in history, charm and atmosphere with a seemingly busy yet relaxed pace to remind you of the holiday feel. Close by to the Blowhole is the picturesque Harbour with beautiful bays complete with fishing boats, fish market and seafood restaurant, parks and playground. There’s something for everyone – you can surf, swim, and play at the wondrous beaches the area has to offer or simply take a leisurely stroll along many of the scenic trails and heritage walks. And two natural rock pools in the foreshore area are ideal for youngsters to explore and enjoy. Pick up a brochure on some of the walks available from the Kiama Visitors Centre a Blowhole Point.
